I can barely believe that as I sit writing this, I have a blanket on my knees and am waiting for the whistle of my kettle to summon me.
Where did summer go? Was she even really here? It feels like it could have been a daydream.
The prospect of Christmas with the family is my joy as the days grow shorter, and I unpack white cotton bags of blankets and throws from my linen cupboard. My quilts are at the dry cleaners, ready to cosy up guest rooms and I can almost smell pine needles crackling in the fire.
One you have a core collection of interchangeable white Reed bed-linens, we always advise investing in our brushed, 100% Egyptian cotton blankets next. Warm and soft, they are an essential item for those cold nights. They are used in every room in our home, our daughter and her fiends cozy up with them whilst tackling homework or watching TV, and house guests know to check their cupboard for spares to wrap up in.
Blankets make everything cosy and comfortable especially during the coldest nights. Did you know it’s not the blanket that’s producing the heat; it’s actually your body. Through the process of convection, blankets act as a protective layer against the radiant heat being lost, trapping it instead around your body, this process is much healthier with blankets made form natural fibres.
What is the best blanket for winter?
Number one on our list of requirements for a bed blanket is that it covers the whole bed. Invest in blankets that are large enough, that no toes need peak out and freeze. We love a blanket that is warm enough over a cotton sheet, to replace a duvet in summer and offers that extra layer of warmth over a duvet in winter.

Our Reed blankets are made from natural fibres, and for good reason. Natural Egyptian cotton is breathable and cosy in a way that man-made fibres just can’t replicate. It’s also far better for the environment with no non-biodegradable microfibres lurking.
There’s a reason our iconic Reed blankets adorn beds in super luxe hotels across the world. They really are the ultimate in softness and luxurious warmth. The softest 100% Egyptian cotton fibres are painstakingly brushed, woven and finished to a mid-weight 460 gram per weight square metre. The result is a silky soft, utterly tactile blanket that will keep you both cool in the summer and warm on icy winter days and long cold nights.
Pure cotton webbing ensures minimal fraying and our blankets are designed to be machine washable for the busy and modern household and to last a lifetime.
Offer guests that hotel at home feeling with a layered cosy bed, complete with a winter cotton Reed gown to lounge in and a quilt for snuggling. I love to start the gift giving early, with my favourite book from the previous year on the nightstand and toiletries in a classic holiday scent like Mandarin to make everyones stay comfortable.
Next up on your Reed Wishlist, our beloved quilts. Add an extra layer of luxurious winter comfort with our quilted bedspreads, we produce them in a range of designs in our 400 thread count percale fabric and offer divine colours, to help you layer the perfect look for your bedroom.

Christmas is around the corner and as your thoughts turn to housing friends and family, get ahead of the festive season to do list by getting your home cosy and guest rooms ready, and order your Reed gift boxes early to avoid the rush and have ready to place under the tree.
After the year we have all had, I am determined to make this yuletide season about connection to loved ones and myself. Baskets of blankets for guests to help themselves too, monogrammed Reed napkins wrapped beautifully as gifts and vegan meals pre prepared and frozen, are going to mean I’ll be relaxed and soaking up every joyous moment.
Both our blankets and quilts are an investment pieces that will last a lifetime and make for wonderful gifts.
Time for my Chai, I’m almost tempted to whip up some vegan eggnog (The Minimalist Baker has a recipe for a dreamy concoction, that makes it onto our family Christmas Eve menu every year), but I must wait, a little Pinterest gift wrapping inpso and recipe scouring will have to do for now.
Happy nesting,
Karen Reed.
