The earthy hue and smooth, luminous look of our taupe sateen bed linen is inspired by the natural colour of Portland stone.
Our luxurious sateen cloth has a warm, smooth and silky feel, making it perfect for creating a cosy feel, while the soft sheen offers a polished, glamourous look. Our Taupe sateen bed linen is also one of our most versatile neutrals, possessing a soft, putty-like hue that is neither too cool nor too warm – great for pairing and layering with other colours, as well as the same shade in different weaves from the Reed bed linen collections.
Colour Schemes
The soft, stone hue of Taupe is particularly elegant alongside Putty, and also works beautifully with the coolness of our Glacier Grey bed linen. Or why not ‘drench’ your bed in a single colour, and mix up the textures instead? If you prefer the lustrous look of cotton sateen but love the crisp feel of cotton percale bed linen, you can mix and match our sateen and percale sheeting, all in the same shade, to create a subtly layered bed linen look.
Why choose cotton sateen bed linen?
In 1998, Mark Reed created this beautiful quality sateen bed linen for the North American market, using our original 400 thread count cotton percale sheeting as inspiration. The silky-smooth feel of sateen bed linen, and the way its weave responds to the light to create a lustrous appearance, has become increasingly popular in recent years. Sateen bed linen is more flexible than percale bed linen and can therefore feel warmer – sateen is ideal winter bed linen – and even look less creased, after a night’s use. However, its looser weave and softness also means that it is less durable than crisp cotton percale bed linen, which is worth considering when looking for the most long-lasting bed linen. The weight of this cloth is 125gsm with a ‘Cover Factor’ of 18.8 out of a maximum 28. Cover Factor is a more reliable and transparent measure of quality than ‘thread count’, since it relates to the tightness of the weave.
