Choose The Perfect Bed Set For Your Decor

Many of us invest a lot of time and resources into making sure that our bedrooms are a calming oasis for us to use as cocoons away from the world.

Choosing the right bed linens can be an overwhelming task, and it is important to get it right for the unique look and feel you are wanting to create. A beautiful selection of bed linens will help you pull together a curated and calm space, that reflects you.

Before you choose your bedding colour scheme, you need to decide what style of bedding you want. Most bedding styles have colours that lend themselves to the fabric and design. Knowing what style you want will help you to successfully incorporate your favorite colours. You can also rely on pops of colour through accent pillows, top sheets, and throws at the end of the bed.

It can be tempting to buy bed linens on a whim, you can get swept up in gorgeous images and lost in daydreams of what your own room will feel like once your online shopping splurge arrives. A little planning however, will go a long way. We advise clients to create a mood board on Pinterest and use this as a guide when carefully choosing a new bed set.

Good quality linens are an investment, Reed linens are made to last for up to 15 years with domestic laundering, so you’ll want to take a little time to ensure that your choice reflects your personal style and will enhance your rooms decor.

Solid Colour Or Patterned Bedding?

Bedding in solid colours can be simply elegant and can give your bedroom a sleek hotel style. Solid colours can also contribute to a relaxing space when layered correctly.

The secret to creating a retreat-style bedroom with solid colour bedding is to stick to a monochromatic colour scheme. Choose your anchor colour and then layer it with lighter and darker shades of the same tone.

Before you choose your bedding colour scheme, you need to decide what style of bedding you want.

If you’d like to pick up accent colours from around your room, patterned or embroidered linens allow you to feature small doses of that colour, without being overwhelming.

The secret to patterned bedding is also to add solid colours liberally to keep your bed looking fresh. Patterned bedding unless a very classic design can become dated more quickly than solid colours, so consider using only one patterned piece with one or two small accents, you can then change things up without replacing your entire set when needed.

Fabric Choices

Once you’ve decided on your patterned or embroidered designs and solid colours, the type of fabric you choose is important too.

Fabrics with a sheen are a more formal choice than a cotton or linen blend. Fabrics with sheen can create a more glamorous aesthetic. Sateen is a sumptuous choice and ideal if you enjoy the feeling of cooler sheets on your skin. The more natural texture of cotton in a monochromatic scheme acts as the perfect base for modern accessories and accents.

All Matching or Eclectic?

Choosing a complete bed set with perfectly matched pillows is a beautiful and easy way to outfit your bed. Bed sets are designed to have a perfectly matched appearance, with a mix of patterns and textures for interest. Though traditional bed sets are deliberately matched, we encourage bringing in some subtle interest through different embroidery or hemming details,  to avoid a dated look.

The secret to putting together an eclectic bedding set that doesn’t look too random is to use one or two unifying colours throughout your bed design.

Now it’s time to build texture with quilts and blankets to create an inviting and warm feel that draws on elements from the rest of your room design for inspiration.
